Today we are profiling Mpolokeng Mahlaba, a 20-year-old girl from China Square in Bloemfontein. Mpolokeng is the only girl at home however, she has a younger brother that she takes care of from time to time when her mother is at work. She grew up like any ordinary child in the township, having to walk to school every day, walking to school was not strenuous, however, it took her about 10-15 minutes max to get to school. Even though her journey was not an easy one she managed to complete her Matric in 2020 despite all the challenges that she came across given that the entire world was dealing with a global pandemic. With the help of the Bloem Girls Rock Foundation she made choices and decisions that changed the narrative behind higher education, she enrolled in Motheo Coltech College also known as Motheo TVET College for the 2021 academic year. Bloem Girls Rock Foundation filmed her first day at college and got to hear her take on education and what she is looking forward to this year. We got to hear her fears about the transition she has now embarked on. She also shared her goals and how will she keep up with them.
