Bloemfontein born Boitumelo Jerry Legegeru,23 is taking over the graphic design industry by storm.
Boitumelo has always been passionate about drawings and graphics from a young age after matriculating in 2013 from Atlehang High School he went on to study Design and Studio Art at the Central University of Technology where he graduated in 2018.Boitumelo describes himself as a simple and humble person “I am a dreamer and I want to achieve great things” he added, he specializes in graphics and motion design that is what he loves most “I plan ahead my achievements instead of celebrating , there’s always something better” he said.
When asked why he went into graphic design he answered “I have always knew how to draw and I grew up playing a lot of video games until today” he says wasn’t sure what he wanted to study and the career path he wanted to follow until he got to grade 10, where he had to choose subjects to further his future career. He went into sciences and mathematics, which worked to his advantage.He also mentioned that he never sat down and sketched on paper ,but he got inspired by channels like MTV,VUZU and Channel O among others, “I was always on Google doing research on how graphics are done until I got to university” he added, the major source of his inspiration are multimedia companies ,production companies and TV channels.
Boitumelo got his first job at Central Media Group, a media company in the Free State which he regards as “One of the biggest media company in the province”. He currently works at Urban Brew Studios as a creative designer, where he does Motion Graphics for TV programmes and channels. When asked what is his biggest achievement thus far he answered “every project I touch that reaches TV is an achievement” he also regards his first job at Central Media Group as his greatest achievement because that is when he got his big break in the industry , his current job is also one of his greatest achievements. He aspires to get recognition for his hard work, to get awards, to inspire young upcoming graphic designers and to meet more creatives and to overall excel in his career.
There were a lot of challenges along the way, while pursuing his qualification and finding a job he strongly believes that if you love what you do, every challenge becomes interesting as you know what you want to achieve. He also mentioned that as a designer lack of equipment is the biggest challenge because you want to produce quality work so that you can be recognized, as the quality of your work will open doors for you, and it will always give you an advantage.
When he asked what he’d say to motivate the youth he said “don’t fear the Future because God is already there. You are going far, and you must believe it. Keep your heart and spirit right, and follow what you love, everyone around you won’t see it, prove everything wrong”., and always remember you have a choice.
