Our latest #BloemGirlsRock candidate is the beautiful Kamogelo Arusha Seekoei 👑 Kamogelo is a Journalist who was born in the small town of Thaba Nchu in the Free State and attended schools at Namanyane Primary and Unicom High School. Growing up, Kamogelo wanted to be a teacher but that soon changed after she saw Queen Latifah playing the role of Khadijah, a magazine editor from the sitcom Living Single. In her teens she realized that she had a love for writing and dreamt of one day owning her own publication. The stars must have been aligned because soon after this realization, her English teacher in high school started a school newspaper and Kamogelo joined this team and started working on her writing skills and sharpening that skill.

Kamogelo went to study at the University of the Free State and went on to do her postgrad at Rhodes University in Grahamstown. She’s now has over 10 years of experience in the industry, building a name and reputation for herself as a journalist working for several publications. As her first job, Kamogelo worked as a cashier at Clicks for 2 years while she was a student and this taught her about how important working with people is and the patience that comes with it.

Kamogelo is a force to be reckoned with and says that what she is doing now is exactly what she’s always wanted to do and that is her greatest achievement and blessing in life. One of her greatest achievements that have come from relentlessly following her dreams is having established Suave Leader Magazine. She also runs Kanna Media Productions which also publishes the magazine and recently produced the Top 50 Young Free State Game Changers book, along with the Free State Legislature.

She currently works for The New Age and is the Free State and Northern Cape Desk Editor. She is also the co-founder of the Free State Press Forum as well as Free State Media Awards. “The forum is a platform for journalists to access training through workshops, guest lectures, etc and the awards are intended to recognise good journalism in the province” the journalist says. Together with two associates she has also established Thaba Nchu Business Network, where local entrepreneurs from the town can actually interact and build bridges for a growing local economy. Previous work she has done includes having worked for Sowetan, Mail & Guardian, Free State Times and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.

On her future aspirations, Kamogelo is currently hard at work to ensure that the seeds planted are watered and will reap the necessary rewards. “Digital is in the pipelines, collaborations with other media players. We are working on changing the media landscape in the Free State for the better because the bare minimum is no longer enough.”

These are all the characteristics found in a woman who ROCKS!!!💎
