about #bmg foundation

The #BGR Foundation is an NPO based in Bloemfontein, the city of roses, which has provided computer literacy skills to underprivileged youth in the townships and has also taken it upon themselves to restore their dignity by providing them with self-care packages and toiletries. #BGR Foundation runs an annual campaign ahead of Mandela Day which raises funds to buy school shoes for some of the most disadvantaged scholars in the schools situated in various squatter camps in Bloemfontein.

In our blog, we feature successful women from the Free State who have made it despite the odds and are thriving in their respective fields. These women not only inspire our young girls -and boys, but they shine a spotlight on the many talents and gems that can be found in our beautiful city and province. By inspiring the youth, they sow a seed of hope and enthusiasm for the future that can often be blinded by unsavoury circumstances.

founder & ceo

Mags Shivanda (born, Bolawana Margret Phalatsi) is the founder and Managing Director of DigitalShero (PTY) LTD, a 100% Black Female owned performance digital media group. The company was founded in 2015.

Under DigitalShero, #BGR Foundation was born and has mentored and inspired several men and women from Bloemfontein and the rest of South Africa.

Mags believes that each and every girl from various townships, small towns and villages needs to hear great stories about women like her from the Free State, who stood against all odds and have made it. In turn, these young girls will realise that all their dreams are valid and that they too can and WILL be anything they dream of.

Mags was born in Thaba Nchu, a small town just outside Bloemfontein and moved to Bloemfontein with her late mom at the age of 4. Her mom started working as a security guard and later ran her own small canteen at Abattoir Bloemfontein. Having come from humble beginnings herself, Mags has always aspired to inspire young girls of a similar background in instilling a hope for a better future and that is one of the main reasons she gave life to the foundation. Mags Shivanda was named one of the Top 50 Free State Game Changers in 2017. This book was published by the Free State Provincial Legislature and was distributed to all public schools, public libraries and public institutions throughout the Free State.
